  • Refreshing. There is nothing like sipping on a cool, energizing frappe on a hot afternoon. I like to add a dollop of whipped cream on top and then serve my frappe with a big straw.

What is a Frappe?

Frappe is just a sweet iced coffee blended with milk and espresso, and it makes for the perfect, summer favorite coffee house treat. It is a MUST have coffee drink if you’re hanging out at the pool, beach, or even your backyard.  Currently, I am vacationing in Belek, Turkey, and there’s not a person at the beach without a Frappe in their hands. Not only is it a must if you’re chillin’ on the beach, it is the only coffee that everyone orders at the cafés around here.

  • Instant Espresso Coffee – You could also use strongly brewed coffee.

  • Sugar – I usually use granulated white sugar, but you could also use light brown sugar to add some caramel notes.
  • Ice – Lots of ice!

How to Make a Coffee Frappe

Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, it’s time to make a frappe! Here’s how to do it:

  • Make the espresso and let it chill. Prepare the espresso and then chill it until completely cooled down.
  • Blend chilled espresso with other ingredients. Next step is to combine the espresso, milk, sugar and ice in a blender. Begin to blend on low speed, slowly increasing the speed to high, and blend until smooth
  • Serve. Pour into glasses and serve right away.

Variation Ideas

  • Caramel Frappe. Replace the white sugar in the recipe below with light brown sugar. Drizzle caramel sauce or unsalted caramel sauce to the insides of the glass before pouring in the blended frappe, then drizzle more caramel on top.
  • Mocha Frappe. Add a drizzle of chocolate syrup to the inside of your glass before pouring in your blended drink, then drizzle more chocolate on top.

This is a refreshing icy drink totally fit for a hot summer day. For me, it’s like dessert in my coffee cup. ☕ Mostly, though, I am glad that I don’t have to get up and drive to a coffee house to satisfy my cravings.

My version is also WAY healthier. Lawwwd knows about all the syrups and creams that go into the real thing. Top with whipped cream and start sipping.
